Since my previous two shares have multiple activities in one, that may keep your child busy over the course of several days, I wanted to keep today easy. The current state of our country poses many new challenges and opportunities for all of us. Like many of you, I am navigating my way through this journey--sometimes gracefully, and sometimes, not so much.
I have been working on homeschooling both of my children, while attempting to work from home simultaneously. I am not going to lie, I am absolutely loving this much time with my monsters. Life is just so busy. Between work, school, extracurricular activities, and sports, it is a rarity these days that we all get to sit down together--even if it is to complete our assignments virtually for work and school. Traditions of having dinners together have been long lost most days of the week. The craziness of life, although sweet, is also overwhelming much of the time.
So, my OT homework for the families out there trying to manage work and school from home, is to take a few moments of reflection each day--
Family means the most, especially during times of crisis. So, let us practice being thankful, and slowing down once in a while, so that we can truly embrace the blessings this world has given us.
Homework: deep breaths, reflection, and a little bit of nature
Sending positive vibes your way!!

- to cherish your family
- to be thankful that we have the luxury to be able to work from home, while our children still receive an education. Technology really can be a wonderful thing.
- to be grateful for the roof over head
- and to be thankful for all of the gifts we have in life (especially our health)

I received a great email today that I wanted to share with you. Please check out this website and the free resources available to you (see below):
Dear Friends,
Schools across the country are temporarily closing their doors as our nation struggles to contain the spread of COVID-19. We understand the enormous challenge your schools are facing as you rush to quickly implement distance learning options that are relevant and effective.
All of us at Learning Without Tears want to help ensure your students can keep the learning going, even when schools are closed. We are opening our award-winning educational resources to all by providing free access to our online programs supporting handwriting instruction, keyboarding, and early learning skills. Additionally, to help students who require a print solution, we are eliminating any shipping fees to the contiguous United States for all our workbooks, activity books, and paper products purchased through our online store.*
We are also providing free resources to help your parents and caregivers support learning while children are out of school. You can find access to all our free online products and resources at LWTears.com.
We are committed to helping you and your students mitigate any learning loss as you responsibly respond to this unprecedented health issue. We are here to support you throughout, so please reach out with any questions or concerns.
We wish you and all your students the best of health.
Sincerely,
Terry Nealon

Today is supposed to be a mild, sunny day. I developed this activity over the weekend with my own children. Give it a try--it is a nice, easy way to work on gross motor coordination, balance, strength, endurance, postural control, bilateral motor coordination, executive functioning and sensory processing.

Self-esteem is so important for all individuals, as they navigate through life, overcome obstacles and try new things. I found this self-esteem worksheet on TeacherVision, to help build your child's/student's self-esteem and emotional regulation skills.

I have personally never developed a mantra before, so I just love this idea of building an individualized matra that incorporates mindfullness and works directly on emotional regulation and self-esteem. I found this great worksheet on TeacherVision. Please check out their website for additional ideas and give this one a "go" at home.

Sometimes we really need to take a "time-out", even if just for a few minutes, to regroup, to self-regulate and to improve our mindfulllness--of ourselves, others and our environment. I found this great worksheet on TeacherVision. Please check out their website for additional ideas and give this one a "go" at home.

My wonderful friend, Teacher Bob, developed and shared some quick and easy movement ideas through a chalk obstacle course. This can easily be modified to meet the needs of your child. You can also work on one activity/portion of the obstacle course a day. Give it a try! Get outdoors and have some fun while working on strength, endurance, balance, sensory processing, gross motor coordination, visual motor coordination, and executive functioning skills!
