Simple Ideas To Practice At Home:
There is never enough time in the day--at home, at work, or at school. Yet, there are always endless things to practice, practice, practice. With the constraints of the core curricular standards and increasing demands on the school system, it is very challenging for teachers to address all of the skills that were once addressed during the traditional school day. Therefore, it is imperative for us as parents to work on some of these skills with our children at home. In many districts, handwriting has been eliminated from the curriculum, both manuscript and cursive programs. So, what did my lucky children work on all summer--learning how to write in cursive! Here are some things to work on with your kiddos at home to improve their skills and performance at school.
- Handwriting
- manuscript/print
- cursive writing
- Keyboarding/typing
- Shoe tying
- Manipulating clothing fasteners (buttons, zippers and snaps)
- Opening a combination lock
- Organizing their papers and work
